'X-Men: Apocalypse' dominating Memorial Day box office

7:25 p.m. EDT May 29, 2016    The mutants of X-Men: Apocalypse are making big noise over the Memorial Day holiday, taking a studio-estimated $65 million for the three-day weekend and a projected $80 million for the entire four-day holiday count through Monday.

Disney's unveiling of Alice Through the Looking Glass is lagging behind in second place with a disappointing estimate of $28.1 million for the three-day weekend and a projected $35.6 million for the four-day count.

The James Bobin-directed Alice stars Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter and Mia Wasikowska as Alice.

Sony's The Angry Birds Movie is set for third place with an estimated $18.7 million for the weekend (and $24.5 million for the four-day count). In its second weekend, the animated film based on the popular video game series has $72 million total in box office.

Disney's Captain America: Civil War is headed for fourth place with $15 million for the three-day estimate, $19.4 million for the four-day. The Marvel superhero drama has earned $376.9 million in its fourth weekend at the box office, passing Deadpool ($362 million) to become the reigning box office champion of 2016.

Universal's Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising looks to round out the top five in its second weekend, taking an estimated $9.1 million over three days and $11 million for the entire holiday weekend. The R-rated comedy starring Zac Efron and Seth Rogen has earned $40.4 million at the box office.

Updated numbers are coming Monday, with final studio numbers expected Tuesday.
